BJP and Congress were in a close race in Rajasthan civic body polls with the ruling party winning 891 of the 2,134 wards for which results have been declared and Congress bagging 770 wards.

BJP once again captured the Ajmer Municipal Corporation by winning 31 of the 60 seats, leaving 22 for the Congress and seven for others. Ajmer mayor, as also the heads of the municipal boards and councils, would be elected from among the winning candidates on Friday.

Of the 113 municipal boards, the BJP has pocketed 62, Congress 25, others 17, while counting was still on for the remaining. From a total of 15 municipal councils, the Congress was leading on eight, BJP on four and the Independents on three.

In Jaipur rural's 10 municipalities, the BJP was leading on nine, while the Independents were in majority on the remaining one.

While remaining it remained in the throughout the counting, BJP lost in Jhalawar, Vasundhara Raje and Dushyant Singh's constituency.

Sujangarh - Congress wins 21seats while BJP wins 12 and the Independents 12.
Sawai Madhopur - BJP takes 29 seats, Congress takes 11 and Independents take 5.
Kotputli - Independent win 18 seats, BJP wins 9 and Congress 3.
Deshnoke - BJP wins 12 seats, Congress wins 8 and Independents win 2.
Bhilwara - BJP wins 38 out of the 55 seats.

Results for 2,134 wards of the total 3,351 wards have been announced so far and the counting is going on, the state election commission's spokesperson said.

BJP won 891 wards, Congress bagged 770 wards, Independent candidates won 456 wards whereas BSP, CPI and CPI(M) got 12, four and one seats respectively.

The August 17 election for 129 civic bodies in the state had witnessed a record polling of 76.19 per cent.
