JAIPUR: BJP state president Vasundhara Rajeon Sunday presided over the state election committee's first meeting, during which names of candidates for 60 assembly seats were cleared.

"These are the seats which had names of single candidates as probables. For other seats, committee members have been asked to give their suggestions,'' said party in-charge Kaptan Singh Solanki.

Solanki along with national joint general secretary (organisation) V Satish and parliamentarian Bhupendra Yadav were also present in the meeting, apart from the 15 committee members.

The meeting lasted over three hours, during which sources claimed that names of probable candidates for over 100 seats of the 200 assembly constituencies in the state were discussed. The meeting was earlier scheduled to be held at BJP state headquarters but at the last minute it was shifted outside. The committee members were asked to be in Jaipur for the first meeting, late on Saturday evening.

The BJP has identified 47 constituencies as crucial mostly in the Shekhawati and western region; of which the BJP has never won in 10. Solanki said that the next meeting would be held before the parliamentary board meeting of the party.

Reports suggest that the next meeting of the board is scheduled for Tuesday but Solanki claimed Rajasthan might not be discussed on Tuesday. "The parliamentary board will meet regularly now and Rajasthan might come up for discussion later. The first list here is expected on October 31,'' he said.

The state election committee was announced on Friday night and the senior leaders of the state have already done their work for the list of candidates. Sunday's meeting and the ones to be held later are expected to be a mere formality. Raje has managed to keep her detractors at bay, which has minimised the chances of any disputes within the committee.
