About the Constituency:

Shahjahanpur Lok Sabha Constituency is one of the 80 parliamentary constituencies of the state of Uttar Pradesh, formed before 1962. The Shahjahanpur Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 27) has a total of 1,627,964 electorates out of which 726,302 are females and 901,662 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports.

About Shahjahanpur:

It covers the District of Shahjahanpur which is a part of the Bareilly Division and covers an area of 4,575 sq km. It consists of four tehsils; Sadar, Tilhar, Powayan and Jalalabad and its headquarters lie in the city of Shahjahanpur.  Hindi is the most commonly used languages here. Agriculture is the primary economic activity here with the cultivation of wheat, potatoes and gram. National Highway NH-24 runs through the area.

As per India census 2011, Shahjahanpur District has a population of 3,006,538 and is the 123rd most populous district of the country. Males comprise 51% of the population and 49% comprises of females. Over the decade of 2001-2011, the population growth rate has been about 18% and the population density of Rampur is 673 people per sq km. 16.31% of the population is under six years and the sex ratio is 872 females per 1000 males. The average literacy rate here is almost equal to the national average at 59.54% with male and female literacy rates at 68.18% and 49.57%.
