About the Constituency:

Keonjhar Parliamentary Constituency was formed before the elections of 1957 and is one of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies of Odisha state. The total number of electorates in the Keonjhar Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 4) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,265,225 of which 644,748 are males and 620,477 are females. It is reserved for the ST and consists of seven Vidhan Sabha segments of which one is reserved for the SC category.

About Keonjhar:

The city of Keonjhar is also known as Kendujhar and lies in north Odisha bordered by Jharkhand, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak at a height of about 596 metres. Keonjhar District sprawls over an area of about 8,300 sq kms. 

According to the census of 2011, the District had a population of about 18,01,733, of which the males were 906,487 and females 895,246. The average literacy rate of the District is 68% and male and female literacy rates are 78% and 58%, respectively. The languages which are prevalent here are Oriya, Bengali, Hindi and English. 

The city has many prominent education centres and is an important hub of education in the region. The area is one of the primary mineral producer of the state and also has an extensive forest covers enabling the production of various products like tamarind, mushrooms, silk cocoons, etc. The National Highways NH-49 and NH-215 place the city in the midst of a well-connected road network.
