About the Constituency:
The Lok Sabha seat of Purvi Champaran came into existence in 2008. As one of the 40 Lok Sabha seats which belong to the eastern Indian state of Bihar, Purvi Champaran is located within the geographic boundaries of the East Champaran district. 1,187,264 is the total electorate count in the Purvi Champaran Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 3).
Out of these 640,901 number of electorates are males and the remaining 546,363 are belong to the female category as the Election commission of India 2009 reports suggest.

Political Background:
With a population of 5,082,868 (2011 census), the district of East Champaran is the second most populous district in Bihar, closely following Patna. The district is part of the Red Corridor, and has the town of Motihari as its administrative headquarters. In the first elections fought for this seat in 2009, the BJP’s Radha Mohan Singh managed to capture power.
