About Parliamentary Constituency: 

Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency is one of the seven Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the Indian National Capital Territory of Delhi. This constituency came into existence in 1956.

  • Was smallest parliamentary constituency in the country with an area of 10.59 sq. km
  • Now Includes:
  1. Sadar Bazar
  2. Civil Lines
  3. Slums of Jahangirpuri.
  • Traditionally a Congress domain

  2. Tara Chand Khandelwal of BJP in 1991

Why it is a tough constituency for BJP?

Traditional voters of BJP, Bania and Punjabi have migrated from Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Model Town, Adarsh Nagar, Tri Nagar & Wazirpur to neighboring areas like Ghaziabad, Noida, Shahibabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad. 

 

Why fight is equally poised?

After the Delimitation

  • Presence of a sizeable number of Vaish – Punjabis (30%) & Scheduled Caste (SC) electorates.
  • Addition of seven more Assembly constituencies & removal of Paharganj, Chandni Chowk
  • Share of Muslims voters has reduced to 15%
  • Presence of SC votes may turn out to be tough both for Congress & BJP
