"It is a cold blooded murder," said BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Thursday following the death of Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan.

"It is a cold blooded murder. This is not the way civilized nations behave. #Sarabjit Singh," tweeted Sushma Swaraj.

Sarabjit Singh died early on Thursday in a Lahore hospital where he was admitted after being being savagely attacked in Kot Lakhpat Jail on April 26.

                                              Sarabjit's death was preventable: Kiran Bedi

Indian prisoner Sarabjit's death in Pakistan was preventable, said former top police officer Kiran Bedi on Thursday. "Sarabjit's death inside Pakistan prison was preventable.Need to find out if r Counsulate in Lahore was regularly visiting him?," tweeted Bedi after Sarabjit Singh died in a Lahore hospital where he was admitted following a savage assault on him by fellow prisoners on April 26.

Bedi also tweeted, "Human Rights Council must b approached by us to investigate d fatal assault on Sarabjit Singh. Case of serious HRights violation."

Another tweet from her said, "Indian Consulate must answer*when did they last visit Sarabjit Singh*what did he tell them*if complained what did they do?"

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condoled the death of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who died in a Pakistan hospital in the wee hours of Thursday following an assault by his fellow inmates in a Lahore prison on April 26.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Sarabjit Singh. He was a brave son of India who bore his tribulations with valiant fortitude. The criminals responsible for the barbaric and murderous attack on him must be brought to justice.

It is particularly regrettable that the government of Pakistan did not heed the pleas of the government of India, Sarabjit's family and of civil society in India and Pakistan to take a humanitarian view of this case.

May his soul be granted the peace that he could not enjoy in life. Government will make the arrangements to bring his remains home and for his last rites to be conducted in consultation with his family. The nation shares their profound grief with them."

                                             Punjab: Pall of gloom descends on Sarabjit's native village

Amritsar:

A pall of gloom on Thursday descended on Sarabjit Singh's native Bhikhiwind village as soon as the news of his death in a Lahore hospital spread with villagers closing all shops to protest the deadly attack on him. Locals of the sleepy border village started to throng Singh's house as soon as they got the news about his death.

However, Singh's family member are camping in Delhi since Wednesday and are expected to reach Amritsar by evening. Villagers downed all business establishments in the area to protest the brutal attack on Singh by inmates in a Lahore jail.

Singh died of cardiac arrest in a Lahore hospital in the wee hours on Thursday after being comatose for nearly a week following the assault by fellow inmates in a high-security Pakistani jail. Sarabjit's wife Sukhpreet Kaur, daughters Poonam and Swapandeep Kaur and sister Dalbir Kaur, who went to Lahore on Tuesday to see him, returned to India on Wednesday.

Punjab: Pall of gloom descends on Sarabjit\'s native village

Locals of the border village started to throng Sarabjit Singh\'s house as soon as they got the news about his death.

The village had witnessed protests after the attack on Singh with locals raising anti-Pakistan slogans and burning effigies representing the neighbouring nation. The villagers had also observed a bandh in protest against the attack on Sarabjit.
