EC team to review election system on September 30

HYDERABAD: A team of Election Commission of India (ECI) will arrive in Hyderabad on September 30 to take stock of the situation on the revision of electoral rolls and review of the election system in the state. There is a possibility of making a decision after meeting the Election Commission State Elections Authorities, Collectors and Police Superintendents.
It is not clear whether the team will meet with political representatives or not. But it will organize meetings with officials and go on regional trips. It can be remembered that a team of ECI had visited Hyderabad on September 11 and 12 and organized meetings with officials. The team also interacted with representatives of political parties to seek their opinions and suggestions.
Meanwhile, the amendment in the electoral process has reached the final stage in the state and the last date for obtaining claims and objections will be on September 25. Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajat Kumar said that the nomination, acceptance of the nomination, claims and objections will be accepted till September 25, 10 days prior to final nomination.
“As of today, the election authorities have received 23.87 lakh objections through the door-to-door survey done till July 25. During the current revision exercise, 5.80 lakh new voters have enrolled and another 8.75 lakh for deletion under Form 7,” Rajat Kumar told the media on Monday.
He said details of duplicate and dead persons were being verified by election authorities and district collectors were getting field verification from their respective districts. “So far 15,528 duplicate voters were identified by using the software,” he said.
