Ø Narendra Modi's first budget targets Indian growth, curbs deficit

Ø Budget 2014: Arun Jaitley proposes 5 new IITs, 5 new IIMs, 4 new AIIMS

Ø Budget 2014: No major boost to Defence, Jaitley allots Rs 2.29 lakh crore

  • Jaitley focuses on women safety, schemes for girls
  • Budget - Sharp recovery in the Sensex. Up more than 400 points from the day's lows.
  • Budget - Cigarette and Aerated drinks to cost more.
  • Budget - Footwear to be cheaper. Certain TV sets will be cheaper depending on their size.
  • Budget 2014:Hikes customs duty on flat steel products to 7.5% from 5%
  • Budget 2014:Basic custom duty on LED panel below 19 inch made zero
  • Budget 2014:"food processing will get incentives. Excise duty would be reduced to 6% from 10%"

Ø Rules of retrospective taxation unchanged. Budget 2014: Tax exemption limit raised to Rs 2.5 lakh from Rs 2 lakh
