BJP has only modi and no leaders who are CM material for poll state
BJP, after the victory in the Lok Sabha polls under the leadership of Narendra Modi , discovered that it has no leaders who are CM material in several states that are going to polls in the coming months.
While BJP believes that the NaMo magic will work in its favour in those states just as it did across the nation in the general election, the top leadership is not able to find leaders who can lead the fight in the poll-bound states.
Unable to find strong leaders to lead the Assembly poll campaign, BJP leaders now say the party is thinking of a collective leadership for contesting the elections and go to the voters without naming a CM candidate.
Party insiders claimed the leadership in states like Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir which are going to polls in the next few months will get a new state President after BJP appoints a new national president.
The BJP national leadership has almost decided that Amit Shah is the next president. Haryana and Maharashtra are facing a leadership vacuum. Modi magic worked on a national level and BJP projecting him as PM candidate clicked.
At the State level, the equations are different. In Maharashtra and Haryan , it has practically no leadership as it was out of power for 10 years. In Maharashtra, the BJP is not willing to allow Shiv Sena to lead the poll battle. Gopinath Munde’s death has only worsened the situation. Maharashtra’s BJP chief Fadnavis is expected to be CM candidate but Vinod Tawade is also a contender.
In Haryana, it has to face poll partner HJC (Haryana Janhit Congress) Kuldeep Bishnoi who has already been made a popular face for the polls, but state leaders are unhappy about him and want to project their own candidate this time after the Lok Sabha poll victory.
Though the poll timing in Delhi and Jharkhand has been decided by Central government, it has no CM candidate in both these States. Harsh Vardhan who led BJP in last State poll in Delhi is now a Union Minister.
Yashwant Sinha is eyeing the CM post in Jharkhand and has Arjun Munda as a rival. Sinha’s age factor works against him and Munda’s ability to deliver is in doubt. BJP plans to move away from tribal politics in Jharkhand for state polls.
