BJP to announce first list of candidates for 2014 Lok Sabha polls in January:
NEW DELHI: Enthused by its success in the just-concluded assembly polls, BJP has swiftly slid into battle mode for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, with party chief Rajnath Singh setting the second half of January as the deadline for releasing the first list of party candidates.
Sources in the party said Singh has asked state units to finalize their recommendations for nominations swiftly so that the first slate can be announced next month, allowing candidates to start campaigning in right earnest.
Singh set the deadline during the sessions he held with state unit chiefs over three days beginning on Monday, sources said. The three-day exercise also saw the BJP chief urging state units to focus on turning out the vote by forming booth committees.
The 'turn-out-the-vote' pitch will be an important issue on the agenda of the first meeting of the party's election campaign committee scheduled to be held here on December 24.
