Modi's Delhi rally to showcase Muslims, BJP going all out to make it a success.

The elevation of Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate may benefit the BJP in the upcoming elections, but it has also left the party leaders concerned about the support of Muslim voters.

Worried that Modi's anti-Muslim image can keep the Muslim voters away from the party, Delhi BJP leaders are leaving no stone unturned to attract the minority community for the Gujarat chief minister's rally in the Capital on September 29.

Moreover, the party leaders have been instructed to urge the Muslims to come to the public meeting in their traditional outfits.

"The idea is to make their presence felt in the rally. It is important that rival parties as well as common people should know that Muslim voters are with us and they will remain with us in the coming elections," said a party leader.

There are many Muslimdominated areas in the city including Ballimaran, Matia Mahal, Babarpur, Seelampur and Okhla where the minority people play a decisive role in the elections.

Considering this, the minority cell of the Delhi BJP has been told to get not less than 25,000 Muslim people for the rally in Rohini. However, Shoaib Iqbal, MLA from Matia Mahal constituency, said, "This is absolutely strange and absurd. Moreover, this is not going to work in the elections.

You may gather people, but you can't change the belief of the people. In fact, this will send wrong message among the Muslim population," he said. The BJP has set up 18 party panels to oversee the preparations for the September 29 rally, and former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta has been appointed convener of the event.

BJP plans to charge Rs.10 from party workers

The BJP plans to charge Rs.10 from party workers who want to attend the proposed public rally of the outfit's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi here next month.

"The party is planning on on charging Rs.10 from party workers and this decision is almost final," a senior party functionary said on Sunday.

The Gujarat CM is slated to address the public meeting in the second half of next month, which the party's state unit hopes would kick-start preparations for next year's general elections.

Earlier this year, Rs.5 per ticket was charged to the public for Modi's programme in Hyderabad.

BJP sought to downplay the issue by saying that it's common practice in the Pariwar conventions.

BJP sets up party panels to oversee preparations

The BJP has set up 18 party panels to oversee the preparations for the pre-poll rally to be held in Delhi on September 29.

Former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta has been appointed the convener of the event which is to be held in West Delhi's Rohini area.

"We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring success for the rally," Gupta said. The committees would look into the various aspects of the event such as sanitation, water, traffic and transport, media relations and publicity, among others.

The committees have already held their meetings, work has been distributed and all the members of these committees are working overtime to make the rally a historic success, the party said.

Modi goes to Delhi via America

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious Prime Ministerial campaign is not just limited to India. He is making every effort possible to woo the Indian diaspora.

In a speech made to Indians residing in the United States through live video conferencing, Modi left no stone unturned in slamming the UPA government and asking people to support his party.

Alleging that the Congress party is running away from answering questions on its nine-year rule, Modi challenged UPA leaders to submit their performance report.

Taking a pot shot at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said: "The scholars are good for winning debates, but they do not bring about changes." He also lashed out at his detractors and said: "As soon as I finish my speech, they will start, Modi said this, this is what is happening in Gujarat. But Modi has given his answers to the people in December 2012 and the people chose the BJP to serve them."

Modi also referred to the 1977 elections during the live feed and said: "The elections after the Emergency were not fought by leaders. Neither papers nor did the pundits influence them. It was the people's voice. Like 1977, 2014 will be the voice of the people".

Modi was addressing the Indian American community at the conclusion of the two-day National Convention of the USA Overseas Friends of the BJP. The organisation passed a resolution urging Indian voters to elect Modi as the next prime minister of India.
