New Delhi:
A compromise may be on the cards between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress on the controversial FDI cap in insurance and pension. CNN-IBN learnt that the two parties are close to striking a deal where the FDI limit is hiked to 49 per cent from the current 26 per cent with the rider that voting rights be restricted to 26 per cent. If the government meets the condition, then the BJP is willing to get the bill passed in the Parliament. The weekend meetings held between Finance Minister P Chidambaram and BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Yashwant Sinha focussed on ending the logjam on key reform bills. A possible deal is also in the offing on the Pension Bill where the government is likely to agree to the BJP's formula of 26 per cent cap and assured returns. The first day of the Monsoon Session was marred by adjournments as MPs of both the Houses created uproar over the smaller states. On one hand Seemandhra MPs were protesting against Telangana while some MPs were demanding statehood for Bodoland and Gorkhaland. Sources said the session may be extended to September 4 from the current August 30 in order to pass all the crucial bills. source:http://ibnlive.in.com/news/ |
