Sonia Gandhi says BJP day-dreaming to retain power in MP
Bhopal: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government in Madhya Pradesh by blaming it for making false promises and not implementing Centre's welfare schemes.
Addressing a rally in Khargone in the poll-bound state, the Congress chief said, "The BJP government had made several lucrative promises but it had failed to fulfill them in all these years. The BJP government here has failed to implement several welfare schemes initiated by the Centre. It is day-dreaming about retaining power here."
She continued by asking, "Where did all the money go?"
In a direct attack on the Shivraj government here, Sonia Gandhi said, "13 of Madhya Pradesh ministers were indicted by Lokayukta, what steps were taken after that?"
Coming down heavily on the BJP government in MP and Chhattisgarh, Gandhi said, "There is corruption in Chhattisgarh and MP, no clean water for drinking, no basic amenities for poor. In the past three years, 417 deaths have taken place in police custody and 4285 in judicial custody. There is lack of doctors in hospitals, because of which proper treatment is not given to the people."
"If they (BJP) think they can win hearts of people only through big speeches then they are wrong," Sonia Gandhi said.
The Congress chief concluded by saying, " There is a wind of change blowing in Madhya Pradesh, I want you to contribute actively to the same."
Gandhi is also due to address another rally in Rewa later today.
Gandhi is scheduled to address three rallies in the BJP-ruled state before it goes to polls on November 25. She will address a rally at Meghnagar in Jhabua District on November 21.
The assembly polls for five states-Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and New Delhi-are being held from November 11 to December 4, and are being seen as a warm-up for next year's general elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to unseat the ruling Congress party at the Centre, which has been weakened by a string of corruption scandals, high inflation and stuttering growth after nine years in power.
