Bhopal:
Former Madhya Pradesh finance minister Raghavji was on Tuesday arrested in connection with a sodomy case. Raghavji along with his family was missing since an FIR was lodged against him on Sunday.
Police officials arrested the sacked minister from the flat of one of his relatives in Bhopal and took him to Habibganj police station. "There was no delay in the case. He was arrested within 40 hours of the FIR being launched," IG Bhopal Range Upender Jain said.
"Raghavji is being taken to a police station for interrogation. He has been charged for sodomy and threatening the person for life," he added. Jain further said that the CD purportedly showing the 79-year-old in "compromising" positions will be a part of the investigation.
"We had searched around 50 houses yesterday. We were searching for him in Rashi Prabha Apartment today. We suspected that some flats were locked up. We opened those flats and found him there. We arrested him immediately and have brought him to the police station for further action," Bhopal SP Arvind Saxena said.
Raghavji was forced to quit the finance minister position following the sodomy allegations. He was also expelled from the BJP's membership. CNN-IBN had accessed the CD that allegedly showed Raghavji and his aides sexually abusing the domestic help. The former minister had, however, denied sodomy allegations saying he was not aware of the CD. "The boy left a month back. If he has put any such allegations of sodomy against me, they are all baseless," Raghavji had said.
A sessions court will on Tuesday hear the anticipatory bail plea of Raghavji. He had on Monday applied for an anticipatory bail after police registered an FIR against him and his two associates for allegedly sodomising the sacked minister's domestic help.
The monsoon session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly began on Monday and the MLAs were eagerly waiting for Raghavji to make an appearance but he didn't turn up. Raghavji was neither at his government bungalow nor in his hometown Vidisha.
The Congress workers took out a protest march on the first day of the monsoon session on Monday and said that the party will bring a no-confidence motion against the state government.
Opposition leader Ajay Singh alleged that while the state government says the law will take its own course, it took six hours to register the FIR and then only was Raghavji suspended from the BJP. "Can the law work under such circumstances," he asked.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, however, has rejected the Congress's allegation of protecting Raghavji.
