Congress-NCP finalize 200 seats for Maharashtra Assembly elections
Mumbai: The Congress and the NCP have agreed to share 200 seats out of 288 assembly seats in preparation for the forthcoming Maharashtra assembly elections while deciding to discuss the rest of the seats next week. They are also yet to decide on who will be the face of the coalition.
State Congress president Ashok Chavan said on Friday, "In the review meeting, senior leaders agreed on the fact that the twin parties have a good presence in some 200 seats."
"The NCP has also made its list of nearly 100 seats and has even completed the first round of screening of the candidates.
State NCP chief Jayant Patil said that the parties will meet next Tuesday (July 16) for the rest of the seats.
Chavan also said that Congress is still prepared to accommodate Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA).

However, he pointed out that effective intellectuals such as Lakshman Mane had recently left VBA, which indicates that it is not all right.
Asked about a possible leadership change within the Congress, Chavan said that when he has resigned and expects to get some other leader promoted to the post of party’s state president, the process has been delayed due to the current political crisis taking place in the state of Karnataka.
