Palghar (Maharashtra) by-poll result: Shiv Sena candidate Amit Ghoda wins by 18948 votes.

Voting began at 7 a.m. and will take place till 5 p.m. for  Palghar (ST) Legislative Assembly 

Counting of votes for by-polls in Karnataka's Palghar will be held today.  The poll results are important in the state.

1. Maharashtra bye election Results

The bypoll has been necessitated following the demise of sitting Shiv Sena MLA Krishna Arjun Ghoda on May 24, 2015.

 Ghoda was elected from the Palghar (ST) reserved tribal constituency during the 2014 Assembly elections.

 The three-time MLA was returning from a marriage ceremony when he suffered a heart attack last year. He was rushed to a hospital at Vapi in Gujarat but was declared dead before admission.

This tribal seat was won by Amit's father late Krishna Ghoda in October 2014 assembly elections. Bypolls to the Palghar constituency is due to be held on February 13, while results will be announced on February 16.

 Amit is pitted against former Congress minister Rajendra Gavit and former Sena leader Manisha Nimkar, who is this time contesting on a Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) ticket.

 Despite the BJP staying away from the election fray, Sena cadres are optimistic about the party  ..

Besides Gavit and Nimkar, Ghoda is also facing challenge from Chandrakant Vartha (CPI-M) and Dileep A Dumada (Bahujan Mukti Party).

 Out of the total 2.47 lakh voters in the constituency, 1.27 lakh are male voters and 1.20 lakh are women. There will be a total of 312 polling stations out of which two are auxillary polling stations.

Congress leader Rajendra Gavit and late Krushna Ghoda's son Arjun Ghoda are expected to be main contenders in the election.
