Congress-NCP split not due to Rahul or me, Says Sonia

Jammu, Sep 30 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi Tuesday said the Congress-NCP split has not come about because of Rahul Gandhi or her. Speaking to media on the sidelines of her visit to flood-affected areas here, the Congress president said: "Neither Rahul nor I am responsible for the NCP breaking its alliance with the Congress".

She was replying to a question whether Rahul Gandhi's handling of alliance affairs had resulted in the NCP parting ways with the Congress at the Centre and in Maharashtra.

Sonia Gandhi said at the conclusion of her two-day visit to some flood-affected areas of the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region: "The situation is very bad in the valley and in the Jammu region."

"I have discussed the flood situation with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. I have told him the state and the Centre must work together to help the flood victims."

Earlier in the day, Sonia Gandhi visited the flood-affected areas in Poonch district. Sonia and Rahul interacted with flood-affected families in a relief camp set up in Poonch town.

Both assured the victims that the Congress will take up the issue of relief and rehabilitation of affected families with the central government. They also visited another relief camp in Akhnoor area in Jammu.

The Congress president arrived in the state Monday with Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Ambika Soni, and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad.
