Maharashtra Election 2014: It’s Mane vs Raut in Nagpur North

maharashtra

NAGPUR: After a long wait the first list of BJP was finally out on Friday evening with the party announcing names of 172 candidates. A large number of these candidates had filed their nominations before the list was out. Some candidates of its allies had also filed their papers on Friday.

Dr Sunil Deshmukh (Amravati) and Anil Bonde (Morshi), who entered BJP on Friday evening, figured in the first list. Other than the four sitting MLAs of Nagpur, Milind Mane has been fielded from Nagpur North where he will take on three-time MLA and minister Nitin Raut. The candidates from Nagpur South, Hingna, Katol, Ramtek and Saoner seats in the district had not been announced.

There was some doubt whether Sudhir Parwe, the sitting MLA from Umred, would be repeated as he had not filed his nomination on Friday. However, the confusion was cleared after the list came out. Sheshrao Chafle had filed his nomination from Katol as a BJP candidate but his name does not figure in the list. Instead, Charansingh Thakur's name would be fielded against NCP minister Anil Deshmukh.

BJP has fielded Suresh Waghmare from Deoli. Datta Meghe's son Sameer was desirous of contesting from this seat. Now he is likely to contest from Hingna. Interestingly, Waghmare had lost to Meghe in 2009 Lok Sabha elections. BJP MLC Mitesh Bangadiya's son Kirti got the ticket from Chimur. However, Bangadiya's archrival Vijay Wadettiwar is contesting from Bramhapuri this time. Bhandara MP Nana Patole's right-hand man Charan Waghmare has got the ticket from Tumsar.

Rumours are rife that Sameer Meghe would contest from Hingna and Sonba Musale from Saoner. BJP candidate from Ramtek is either DM Reddy or sitting Shiv Sena MLA Ashish Jaiswal. Till the filing of the report Shiv Sena and NCP had not been able to announce their candidates. Both parties said that they would release the list late in the night.

MNS has fielded Prashant Pawar from Nagpur West. It has fielded candidates from Saoner and Ramtek too. The party has two candidates each from the two constituencies and it will be known only on Saturday who gets the party's AB form.
