Assembly Elections 2014: Pressure mounts  Uddhav Thackeray to reconsider ties with BJP

Shiv Sena-BJP saffron alliance in Maharashtra has been hanging since the BJP chief Amit Shah through his speech stated that BJP wants bigger share of seats in Maharashtra. In a major blow to the saffron party, after Haryana Janahit Congress (HJC) snapped their ties with BJP in Haryana before assembly elections in the state, Sena leaders are mounting pressure on party president Uddhav Thackeray to reconsider the alliance.

However, BJP Maharashtra incharge Rajiv Pratap Rudy rejected the reports saying that there is no dissent between the decade old alliance partners and they will contest assembly elections together. But according to reports, Sena leaders want that party should reconsider its tie with BJP in Maharashtra. The reports have come days after Shiv Sena in its mouth-piece Saamna criticised BJP for its debacle in by-poll election in Bihar and Karnataka. Shiv Sena also took a dig at BJP’s claim of Modi wave and said that the wave cannot work everywhere.

The rift between the two partners has widen because of seat sharing issue as well as on projecting chief ministerial candidate. BJP after its spectacular performance in 2009 assembly elections and 2014 General Elections in Maharashtra is demanding more seats while Sena taking advantage of BJP’s unsatisfactory performance in the by-poll doesn’t want to accept the demands.

BJP and Shiv Sena have been poll partners in Maharashtra since 1988 and have fought all polls together since then. But the rift between them is increasing. Will Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray take the tough decision?
