Nomination papers of 9 candidates rejected.
Nomination papers of at least eight candidates in all the nine Assembly segments of Cuttack district were rejected after scrutiny today. Similarly, candidature of another, seeking to contest Lok Sabha election, was not found valid after scrutiny.
Whereas a total of 92 candidates had submitted their papers wishing to contest in next month's Assembly elections in the district, documents of 84 were found valid after scrutiny on the day and the final list of candidates to remain in fray would be only known after the last day of withdrawal slated on Saturday.
Similarly, for the lone parliamentary constituency of the district, the documents of ten candidates were found valid after scrutiny while the nomination papers of an independent candidate Dhirendra Satpathy was rejected for want of requisite affidavits and signatures of his proposers.
"The final list of candidates for the Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency would be notified after the expiry of the withdrawal deadline on Saturday", said the returning officer and Cuttack collector Girish SN.
Among the Assembly segments coming under the jurisdiction of the district, no nomination paper of candidates in Banki, Athgarh and Choudwar-Cuttack segments were rejected. "All the nomination papers of 11 candidates in Banki, six in Athgarh and nine in Cuttack-Choudwar were found valid after scrutiny on Thursday", said a release issued here by the district election office.
However, the nomination papers of OJM candidate Rabi Ranjan Sahu and TMC candidate Sabita Kar were rejected in Cuttack-Barabati segment. Similarly, the papers of Samajwadi Party candidate Jogendranath Bhoi and independent candidate Abhisek Mahananda of Cuttack Sadar were found not valid and rejected.
The nomination papers of Samata Kranti Dal candidate Samir Kumar Bhoi in Niali segment, independent candidates Shyamakant Choudhury of Badamba, Smita Sucharita Naik of Salipur and Pradipta Kumar Das of Mahanga segment were rejected after scrutiny.
After the scrutiny, nomination papers of 13 candidates in Badamba, nine in Cuttack-Barabati, seven in Niali, 10 in Cuttack Sadar, nine in Salipur and 10 in Mahanga segments were found valid and the final list of candidates to remain in fray would be notified on Saturday.
