Bangalore: A pre-poll survey conducted by a leading Kannada newspaper 'Kannada Prabha' and C-fore predicts that the ruling Congress in Karnataka is likely to maintain its lead in the Lok Sabha polls. However, it also predicts that the main Opposition, the BJP will be engaged in a close fight with the Congress in most parts of the state.

The Congress is projected to win 14 seats, the BJP is likely to get 12 seats and the JDS is likely to win just two seats in the state. Karnataka has a total of 28 Lok Sabha seats.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, the ruling BJP won 19 seats, the Congress just 6 and the JDS 3 seats. This time the BJP is likely to lose 7 Lok Sabha seats to the Congress. The JDS is likely to lose 1 Lok Sabha seat.

According to the survey, the ruling Congress is expected to do well in the Old Mysore, Hyderabad-Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka regions. The BJP is expected to do well in the Lingayat dominated Mumbai-Karnataka region and some parts of Central and northern part of coastal Karnataka regions. Former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, who recently returned to the BJP, is expected to win from Shimoga.

The survey also suggests that making the KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar, a deputy chief minister will help the party in the state. The BJP seems to have recovered from its humiliating defeat in the assembly elections held in May 2013. In that election, the BJP was leading in just 2 Lok Sabha seats. The Congress was leading in 22 Lok Sabha seats and the JDS in remaining 4 Lok Sabha seats.
