JMM to focus on local issues in Assembly Elections 2019
Party insiders said that MLAs of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) are ready to accept local issues as election agenda for the upcoming Assembly Elections this year.
After the humiliating defeat in Lok Sabha elections, where the party managed to win only one out of 14 Parliamentary seats in Jharkhand, JMM had to focus on local issues affecting people at the grass root level during campaigning for the assembly elections here.
JMM’s Bahragora legislator Kunal Sarangi said, “The Lok Sabha was fought on national issues. Assembly election is a different kind of game”. He said that the local issues affecting people in Jharkhand will be more important in the Assembly polls. “We will focus on issues like poor health care, unemployment, malnutrition and lack of education, and prepare a blueprint for our campaign,” said Sarangi.
For the Assembly Elections, the party prepared to play the role of an elder brother in the UPA alliance had to face embarrassment in Santhal Pargana, where the party’s patron Shibu Soren lost to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunil Soren in Dumka.
After the election results, The JMM said in an official statement issued to the media that the party will avenge the loss of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren in the assembly elections and has already started preparing a roadmap for it.
JMM General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said that the main objective behind the meeting was to bring all legislators under one roof and exchange views for an effective election campaign. “Our legislators from across the State will float their ideas at the meeting. A blueprint for the election campaign will be prepared after a brainstorming session on Saturday,” he said.
With 19 MLAs in the 81-member assembly in Jharkhand, JMM is the second largest party here. However, the party played a second role to the Congress party during the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The JMM represented the alliance with four seats out of 14, while the Congress party contested in seven seats.
