Rail budget is anti-Jharkhand:JMM General Secretary Suprio Bhattacharya

Ranchi: The BJP on Tuesday hailed the Rail budget terming it as "constructive and praiseworthy" while ruling allies Congress, JMM and RJD accused Railway Minister DV Sadanand Gowda of cheating Jharkhand despite being a backward region.

"The rail budget is constructive. It is praiseworthy in addressing areas like maintenance, security, services, employment generation and the assurance (given) in structural development, passenger facilities, completion of pending projects," BJP leader and former Chief Minister Arjun Munda said in a statement here.

He also expected that the pending rail project in Jharkhand would be completed soon. Accusing the Railway Minister of cheating Jharkhand by giving only one new passenger and one express train, Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Sailesh Sinha said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurances to backward states like Jharkhand during his election rallies came a "cropper". . Also Read: Highlights of Rail Budget 2014-2015

"The people had been assured many things ahead of the General Elections for backward states like Jharkhand. But the opposite happened in the rail budget," Sinha said. JMM General Secretary Suprio Bhattacharya said, "The rail budget is anti-Jharkhand though the state's two rail divisions---Dhanbad and Chakradharpur---are among the country's top five rail divisions which give maximum revenue to the railways. The budget reflects capitalistic approach as it mentions FDI in the rail industry," Bhattacharya added.

Senior RJD leader and MLA Janardhan Paswan said, "It did not come as surprise as we expected such anti-Jharkhand Railway budget although the BJP got 12 of the 14 seats from the state. There is nothing special for the people of the state."
