Jammu Kashmir Govt Formation: Protest in Srinagar over likely PDP-BJP alliance
SRINAGAR: A recently formed group in Kashmir Tuesday held a protest asking the Peoples Democratic Party, which won the most number of seats in the recent local govenment elections, to not form an alliance with the right wing Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party.
Scores of members of the 'Citizens Forum' assembled at the region's capital Srinagar and termed the alliance between PDP and BJP as 'unacceptable'.
The activists said that BJP is a ‘communal’ party which is operating in Kashmir with a sole intention to abrogate Article 370, which gives the disputed region a special status under the Indian constitution.
The Citizen Forum members were carrying banners and said: "PDP-BJP alliance would prove fatal for the people of Kashmir and PDP should think hundred times before forging an alliance with the right wing party."
Meanwhile, Kashmir Industrial Revival and Development Forum Tuesday appealed the chief of PDP, Muft Muhammad Sayeed to make an honourable deal with BJP before forming government with the party that has second most number of seats.
“KIRDF wants a strong government in state and only PDP-BJP alliance can give us a strong government. PDP being the pro-people party should make an alliance with BJP without wasting any time,” General Secretary KIRDF Abdul Aziz Ganaie said.
