478 complaints of poll code violation in Kashmir: Election Commission
Jammu, (IANS) As many as 478 complaints of violation of the model code of conduct have been received by the Election Commission since the beginning of the five-phase Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, a poll panel official said.
Also 92 incidents of violence relating to the poll campaign were reported from different parts of the state, which resulted in injury to 117 people, chief electoral officer (CEO) Umang Narula said in a statement here.
He said 248 of the complaints have so far been disposed off and remaining are under investigation. "Each complaint has been carefully scrutinized and disposed off as per the norms of Election Commission of India," said Narula.
In order to ensure free, fair and transparent elections, the authorities had taken several precautionary measures, he said, adding that flying squads had seized 1,305 CGI sheets, 80 pipes, 40 vehicles, 19 bottles of liquor, cash amounting to Rs.110 lakh and other items relating to the publicity material in violation to the model code from different parts of the state.
