BJP Kashmir candidate opposes repeal of Article 370

BJP won confidence vote, but lost peoples' trust: Shiv Sena BJP Kashmir candidate opposes repeal of Article 370 Mumbai, (IANS) The Shiv Sena Thursday said that the BJP government in Maharashtra won the vote of confidence in the assembly Wednesday, but lost the trust of the people. The Shiv Sena rejected the vote of confidence won by the government in a voice vote without division of votes in the Maharashtra assembly Wednesday and said the BJP has forfeited the people's faith in the government on its very first day in governance. "They have strangulated democracy. It's a sin for which there is no expiation. A party which threw all norms to the winds to stick to power should not - at least now - speak about bad governance," the Sena said in a sharp editorial in its mouthpiece 'Saamana' Thursday. The Sena wondered how a party, which trampled upon all democratic norms and traditions to win the vote of confidence in the assembly, could ever be able to win the peoples' credence. "The people of the country will reject it." Attacking the government for the manner in which it sought a voice vote during a chaotic situation, the Sena pointed out that the BJP's promises of providing clean governance were proved wrong on the very first day. Questioning the government's contention that the demand for polling was delayed by the opposition, the party said that they were trying to shelter behind technicalities and they could have easily honoured the opposition demand for division of votes by polling. "Was it because the government was apprehensive that a corrupt party which was supporting them could get into trouble? Or was it that the government itself lacked confidence of the kind of majority support it enjoyed in the house?" the Sena asked. It cautioned the government that it would have to reply to the people of Maharashtra on why all constitutional norms and proprieties were violated in winning the confidence vote on the floor of the assembly.

Srinagar, (IANS) Hina Bhat, BJP candidate for the Amira Kadal assembly constituency here, Thursday said she does not support abrogation of Article 370 and expressed the hope the contentious issue would not figure in the party's manifesto for the state elections.

When IANS asked Bhat whether she stood by her statement in local media that she would be the first to pick up the gun if Article 370 was abrogated, she said: "It is my personal opinion that Article 370 cannot be abrogated."

"Yes, if it is abrogated, I will oppose it tooth and nail." She also questioned reports that abrogation of Article 370 would be part of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) manifesto for Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls.

"Have you seen the manifesto? How do you say abrogation of Article 370 would be part of our assembly election manifesto?" she asked.

On Tuesday, while inaugurating the party's media cell in Jammu, Jitendra Singh, minister of state at the Prime Minister's office (PMO), told reporters: "All issues (including Article 370) which have been part of the BJP manifesto all these years will be part of the agenda. They will continue to be so."

"The ideological issue (Article 370) which you are pointing at, BJP's stand is very clear on it and it is known to you." "But in each election at a given time, you have to prioritise and you have to go by the aspiration of the people. The aspiration of the people as of now, in 2014, in November and December, when we go to polls, is to liberate this state and people from years and years of misgovernance, corruption and misappropriation of central funds," the minister said.
