J & K Assembly Election May Be Delayed
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) is likely to postpone the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by a few weeks in view of the ravages of the flood in the state. This became evident when the commission cancelled its proposed visit to the state on Wednesday. The commission was to review the poll preparedness.
The Election Commission was expected to hold Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir in November-December this year as new Assembly of the state has to be constituted before January 19, 2015.
However, sources pointed out that the meeting of the three-member Election Commission will take a final call on the date of the next visit and that the process of elections could be delayed. Meanwhile, the Election Commission is likely to announce the schedule for Assembly elections in Maharastra and Haryana very soon, sources said.
