By 31st October 2019, the Commission is preparing itself for the assembly elections in the month of November, keeping in mind the timing of posting officers who will be involved in election duty. Chief election officers in Maharashtra and Haryana have been asked to start preparations for the elections. The term of current State Legislative Assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra ends on November 2 and November 9, respectively.

The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) became as the single largest party in Maharashtra after it won 122 seats in the 288-member assembly in last elections. BJP sources said this time BJP and Shiv Sena would contest 135 seats each and give the remaining 18 seats to smaller allies.
