State Budget 2015: Ghaziabad gets 448cr civic push in municipal budget

GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Wednesday approved a budget of Rs 1,054 crore for the financial year 2015-16. This comprises a proposed expenditure of Rs 448 crore on various works and an expected revenue generation to the tune of Rs 606 crore for the entire financial year. The budget estimates were given the seal of approval by the 14-member executive committee of the civic body comprising, among others, the mayor and the municipal commissioner.

A major chunk of the proposed expenditure, Rs 62 crore, was earmarked for various development works to be undertaken by the public works department of the municipal corporation. This includes construction and maintenance of internal roads in different wards of the city, maintenance of parks, and construction of stormwater drains and so on. Members of the executive committee said that discussions were held during the course of the meeting to chart out courses for increasing revenue generation of the GMC.

The municipal corporation has pegged its estimated revenue generation at Rs 55 crore from collection of house taxes. Similarly, an estimate of Rs 27 crore has been made from collection of water taxes for the financial year 2015-16. The major chunks of revenue are, however, expected from cess collected on stamp duties against infrastructure development at the time of registration of properties and from grants made available to the civic body through the 13th Finance Commission.

The corporation estimates collection of Rs 134 crore and Rs 170 crore, respectively, under these two heads. The mayor said constant water supply would be ensured.
