Akhilesh Yadav blames social media for Muzaffarnagar riots.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday blamed social media for fuelling riots in Muzaffarnagar. The CM demanded censorship on social media and said there is still no way to control the medium.
He also said that law and order was deteriorated because of social media and mobile phones and emails were used to send the hate messages. "Telecom companies must invent technology to prevent such incidents," said Akhilesh.
Yadav said some parties tried to gain political mileage through communal riots in Muzaffarnagar. Earlier, Akhilesh has vehemently defended his government over charges of inaction, interference and preventing police from acting against those involved in the Muzaffarnagar riots.
Yadav also mounted a vigorous defence of Azam Khan, his ministerial colleague, absolving him of any wrongdoing. Akhilesh Yadav admitted that the police officers and the district administration faulted in their assessment of the magnitude of the problem and in its estimates of the number of people likely to attend the mahapanchayat after which the clashes began.
