About the Constituency:

One of the two Lok Sabha constituencies which belong to the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh is the parliamentary constituency of Arunachal West. The Arunachal West Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 1) consists of 433,368 number of electorates in totality, of these 215,516 are males and 217,852 are females as the Election commission of India 2009 data suggests.

 

Unknown facts:

A total of eight districts together form this Lok Sabha seat of Arunachal West, as per the 2008 implementation of the delimitation of the parliamentary constituencies. These eight districts are: West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, Tawang, West Siang, Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri and Kurung Kumey.

Political Significance:

Comprising 33 assembly segments which make up this Lok Sabha constituency, Arunachal West has primarily remained a vote bank of the Congress, although both the BJP and the Arunachal Congress have won this seat in one general election each.

Tall Leader:

The most popular leader in this constituency of Arunachal West was Prem Khandu Thungan of the Congress, who was elected as MP for four successive Lok Sabha sessions, from 1980 to 1991.
