Patiala Municipal Corporation Local Civic Body Election 2017

The State Election Commission of Punjab has announced elections for three municipal corporations and 32 Nagar Councils and Nagar Panchayats in the state on December 17.

  1. The voting for Punjab civic elections 2017 will take place on Electronic Voting Machines on December 17 and counting of votes will also take place on the same day.
  2. The elections come eight months after the Congress came to power in the state after winning Punjab Assembly Elections earlier this year and will, therefore, be a crucial test for Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. 
  3. The civic polls in the state are going to be a three-way battle with Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party in the fray.
  4. Elections will take place for 3 Municipal Corporations of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala and 32 Nagar Councils/Nagar Panchayats. There is no word on elections for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation yet.
  5. The State Election Commission has set up 3200 polling stations across the state: 756 polling stations in Amritsar Municipal Corporation, 563 in Jalandhar and 254 in Patiala. In Barnala 13, in Bathinda 15, in Ferozepur 19, in Fatehgarh Sahib 13, in Hoshiarpur 13, in Kapurthala 37, in Ludhiana 70, in Moga 35, in Mansa 13, in Muktsar Sahib 11, in Pathankot 11, in Sangrur 52, in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and in Tarntaran 13 polling stations have been set up.
