About the Constituency:
The Paschim Champaran or the West Champaran Lok Sabha constituency came into existence in 2008, following the Delimitation Commission of India’s Orders was instituted. It is one of the 40 Lok Sabha seats allotted to the state of Bihar. The total number of electorates in the Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 2) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,220,868 of which 658,427 are males and 562,441 are females.
This parliamentary constituency is part of the administrative district of West Champaran in the northern region of Bihar. Before the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies in 2008, the geographic region of this constituency was part of the Bettiah Lok Sabha constituency.

About Paschim Champaran:
As this district which is part of the Tirhut division, shares a fluid border with the neighbouring country of Nepal, instances of high rates of crime and smuggling in the Paschim Champaran constituency are frequent. This makes the West Champaran district a part of the Red Corridor.
The density in this district is 750 inhabitants per square kilometer, making it one of the most important urban centres in Bihar. History remembers the West Champaran district as being one of the first regions to witness traces of the Satyagraha Andolon led by Mahatma Gandhi. Bettiah and its surrounding regions are famous for the anti-colonial struggles involving the indigo plantation. Six assembly segments make up this parliamentary constituency of Paschim Champaran.
