Odisha urban local bodies poll : Voting begins in eight civic bodies

Bhubaneswar: Voting begins in 8 urban local bodies. The elections will be held in the municipalities of Paradip, Sunabeda and Behpahar and five Notified Area Councils of  Redhakhol, Balimela, Daspalla, Tushura and Dharmagarh.

The State Election Commission (SEC) arranges all possible measures for smooth conduct of these elections. The eight civic bodies have a total of 129 wards for which 469 candidates are in the fray.

Out of total 183 booths, 115 have been identified as sensitive/more sensitive ones. On the direction of the SEC, CCTVs have been put u p at 18 booths.

 Besides, eight Observers and eight Expenditure Observers have been deployed to oversee smooth conduct of the polls. Results would be declared after counting of votes on Wednesday. 

A total of 1,50,186 voters will exercise their franchise in eight urban local bodies. Counting of votes would be done on April 8.

CCTV facilities have been made in 18 such booths, Senapati said adding 183 presiding officers and 594 polling officers have been engaged in election duty.
