Not a single vote cast in Haryana's Sultanpuria.
SULTANPURIA (Sirsa):
- Not a single vote was cast in two polling booths in Sultanpuria village as 1,900 voters boycotted elections over non-fulfillment of their long-pending demand.
- For the past 12 years, villagers have been demanding a water canal for irrigation purpose but no political leader has taken any initiative in this direction. Recently, villagers held a panchayat and decided to boycott elections.
- "Groundwater is salty and unfit for irrigation. We have been seeking a new canal connecting Ghaggar river but nothing was ever done. We were given mere assurances and the work never started," said Kalu Ram Khichar, a villager.
- On Thursday, some polling officers visited Sultanpuria and asked villagers to cast their vote but villagers demanded written assurance. Kalu Ram said that they would boycott assembly elections as well.
