Bihar Election: LJP to oppose five HAM candidates

Bihar Election 2015PATNA: In an apparent sign of differences cropping up in the NDA camp, the LJP on Sunday vowed to oppose five rebel JD(U) MLAs in Bihar assembly election due in September-October. The MLAs are now associated with former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular). However, LJP has welcomed Manjhi's outfit to the NDA.

State LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan's younger brother Pasupati Kumar Paras said, "We will oppose the candidature of dissident JD(U) MLC and former agriculture minister Narendra Singh's two MLA sons -- Ajay Pratap (Jamui) and Sumit Kumar Singh (Chakai) -- and disqualified MLAs Raju Singh (Sahebganj), Ajit Kumar (Kanti) and Anil Kumar (Tekari)."

Paras said his party has already apprised senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi of the LJP decision. Paswan nodded when asked to comment on his younger brother's statement. Narendra had walked out of the LJP with a dozen MLAs in 2005 after the electorates had given a fractured mandate in assembly polls. The LJP would, however, not oppose Manjhi.

Union food and consumer affairs minister Paswan said the PM Narendra Modi factor would help NDA sweep the assembly elections and poll strategy was being worked out to defeat Nitish-Lalu alliance.

Paswan told the media here that the NDA would get at least two-thirds majority in the elections. "NDA would announce its CM candidate at an appropriate time. We would fight elections on the basis of the NDA government's performance and good governance under PM Modi's leadership," he said.

"It was unfortunate that Bihar was thrown into 'jungle raj' for about 15 years during Lalu-Rabri regime. Now, the state has also lost its credibility on development front during the past 10 years of Nitish Kumar rule. NDA has a good chance to sweep Bihar polls this time," Paswan said.

Denying that he was nurturing political ambition to be Bihar CM candidate of NDA, Paswan said the LJP would strongly stand by its political partners to garner support for the alliance candidates. "The LJP vote bank is not confined to Dalits as people from every walk of life support us at national level," he said, adding LJP would now launch a 'Bihar Bachao' campaign to rid the state of Nitish-Lalu duo.

Paswan regretted that both Nitish and RJD chief Lalu Prasad had deep 'allergy' to people of Paswan community. "LJP is committed to maintaining social justice and we give a fair chance to every individual to pursue his goal," he said.

Paswan, who participated in the 'yoga' camp at Hajipur Sunday morning, said PM Modi has proved that India is the country of 'yoga gurus' in the world. He lauded Baba Ram Dev for creating mass awareness about yoga and its need in life. Paswan stressed the need to highlight the yoga school at Munger. "I would take up the issue of Munger school with the Centre," he said.

Taking a dig at Nitish and Lalu, Paswan said though the two were talking nonsense about 'yoga', they would start practicing it after the poll results.
