The Election Commission on Wednesday announced the dates for the high-stakes Assembly elections in Bihar. Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi announced the dates for the polls for the 243-member Assembly.

"The notification for the first phase of the election will be issued on September 16 and last date will be September 22nd. Second phase nomination will begin on September 21st and last date would be September 29th. Third phase nomination will be from October 1st to 8th October. Fourth phase from October 14th and last phase would be from October 8th to 15th October. For the first time, in this election, EVMs will be carrying photos of the candidates to prevent the namesake problem.Bihar state has 243 Assembly constituency seats with 38 reserved seats for Schedule caste(SC) and 2 seats for Schedule tribes (ST).
The total number of voters in Bihar is 6.68 crore. The Election Commission also said that the list of voters will be updated till the last date. Two model polling stations will be set up in all election constituencies.
