APCC denies on Alliance with AIUDF, All India United Democratic Front, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Tarun Gogoi,Assam Assembly polls , Assam Assembly election 2016
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday Asserted that it would not enter into any kind of alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in the upcoming Assembly polls.
“The Congress party has a strong base and organisational set-up and it will field its candidates in all the 126 constituencies, in the recent panchayat by-elections, the Congress party won three seats, leaving the AIUDF behind by a fair margin and we are determined to repeat the results in the forthcoming polls,” stated Imdad Hussain, APCC general secretary.
“There will be no pre-poll alliance with the AIUDF and the Congress will emerge the winner with the maximum number of seats,” Hussain claimed. Dismissing media reports of an understanding with the AIUDF, Hussain, on the other hand, predicted that the AIUDF’s vote share would also fall drastically in the ensuing polls.
“It would be tough for the AIUDF to bag even 10 seats. The support base of the AIUDF is on the wane as the party has failed to live up to the expectations of the minorities in the recent years,” Hussain said.
“The Congress candidates will have the last laugh in most of the AIUDF bastions in the next elections,” he added. The AIUDF chief, he said, has failed to realise the hopes and aspirations of the voters. With elections to the State Assembly round the corner, the different political parties of the State are working overtime to stitch electoral alliances.
However, the Congress has lately given confusing signals about its intention on cobbling an electoral alliance. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has indicated that instead of a formal tie-up, the Congress is not averse to having an electoral understanding with like-minded parties to prevent the spilt in the anti-BJP votes.
