Haryana: Jind Bypoll Elections 2019 Updates

Haryana: Jind Bypoll Election Result 2019 Live

The Election Commission had announced on December 31 that the bye-election for the Jind Assembly seat will be held on January 28 and the results will come on January 31.

Jind election counting LIVE: BJP candidate Krishna Middha has won in Haryana's Jind bypoll, followed by Jannayak Janta Party's (JJP) 27-year-old Digvijay Chautala by a margin of 12,935 votes. Congress's heavyweight Randeep Singh Surjewala is trailing number three.

In a major setback for the Congress party ahead of Lok Sabha elections this year, party's candidate Randeep Singh Surjewala lost the Jind assembly by-election by a massive margin. He was at number 3 after BJP's Krishan Middha and Digvijay Singh Chautala of Jannayak Janata Party's (JJP).

With a voter turnout of 75.77 per cent, the counting of votes to the Jind bye-election in Haryana begun Thursday morning at 8 am across 14 tables at the Arjun stadium. Jind’s returning officer and Sub Divisional Magistrate Virender Sehrawat said the counting of votes was completed in 13 rounds. In the 2014 assembly elections, too, Jind witnessed 75.84 per cent polling.

All four major political parties - BJP, Congress, INLD and JJP, are looking to win the Jind by-election and are ready for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Haryana. The elections were held on January 28, in which around 76% of 1.72 lakh voters exercised their franchise.

Nearly 1.7 lakh people, including 80,556 women were eligible to vote, as 71 polling booths in rural areas and 103 polling booths in urban areas were set up.

Nearly 3,000 policemen, 500 home guards and over 200 personnel drawn from the CRPF and the Rapid Action Force were deployed to ensure smooth polling. Officials said that polling remained peaceful.

A total of 21 candidates are in the fray including Congress’ Randeep Singh Surjewala and ruling BJP’s Krishan Middha. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has given the ticket to Umed Singh Redhu. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of INLD MLA Hari Chand Middha in August last year.

When Congress has decided to field its communication in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, also an MLA from Haryana's Kaithal, the fight for Jind become the semi-final for all parties, as the Lok Sabha election is due in three months.

BJP candidate for this seat is Krishna Middha, son of the late Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Hari Chand Middha. INLD is fielding Umed Redhu for the Jind bypoll. Dushyant Chautala, the son of Ajay Chautala, both of whom have been expelled from the INLD is contesting as an Independent with the backing of Jannnayak Janata Party (JJP).
