#BJP’s list of candidates likely this week....

The BJP is likely to release a list of its candidates for the upcoming MCG elections in a day or two.

  • Insiders claimed that the party was initially trying to delay the announcement of candidates so that those who failed to bag a party ticket did not get enough time to prepare themselves and file their candidature independently.
  • However, the party is now planning to come out with the candidates' list soon in view of the Shradh period beginning Wednesday.
  • Since shradh is considered inauspicious, many feel that announcing the list of candidates during this period might not be good. This year, the shradh period starts on September 6 and ends on 20 while the nominations have to be filed between September 8 and 13. Therefore, we may come out with a partial list of candidates by September 6 or 7, said a BJP leader.

  • Unlike BJP and INLD, the Congress has decided not to use its symbol in the civic elections. Thus, it does not have to bother about rebels, contesting as independent candidates. For, Congress sources said, like the last time, if an independent, who has been associated with the party earlier in any way, wins the MCG election, he or she will be made party's official candidate after the results.
