BJP national spokesperson Captain Abhimanyu says that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the captain of the Haryana team for the upcoming assembly elections. In an interview to Raghav Ohri, he says Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is the "self imposed" captain of a "rudderless ship" (Congress) about to sink:

What is BJP's strategy for the upcoming Haryana elections?

The Haryana electorate is fed up with dynastic, divisive politics and raging corruption. BJP is going to stick to its promise which it made to the masses - good governance versus dynastic politics and corruption. With the government performing at the national level, we have credibility to showcase to the people of Haryana. Except BJP, all other parties represent dynasty, divisive politics and lack credibility to provide good governance. We have promised Haryana that the culture of good governance launched by Mr Modi will percolate to Haryana.

How many seats do you predict for your party?

We are confident of securing a two-thirds majority. Haryana is one state which has always voted for the party in power at the Centre. The record of the last 48 years demonstrates this pattern. History favours us.

What makes BJP so confident?

The huge Modi wave which has only grown bigger since the party was voted to power with an unprecedented mandate. Secondly, all other parties in the state, including Congress, are in complete disarray, despair and hopelessness.

What are the party's chief criteria for ticket distribution?

While distributing tickets, the party will keep winnability, clean track record and public image of a candidate in mind. BJP warhorses who have served the party for long, armed with these two assets, will be preferred at the time of distribution of tickets.

Will the generational shift reflect in Haryana's BJP leadership too if it is vote to power?

Haryana is a young state with nearly 65% youth. It makes a lot of difference to have a young leadership at the helm of affairs, understanding the aspirations of youth and all classes. We can expect a mirror image of the central model in Haryana.

What about the caste factor?

There is no such dichotomy (of Jats and non-Jats) in Haryana. It is a terminology concocted by the media. People of Haryana are well aware of their rights and the current political scenario. The demography of Haryana is very homogenous and it works across caste lines.

Why has BJP not declared a CM candidate for Haryana?

Being closer to Delhi, Haryana is a state which is part of mainstream politics. Any significant development at the national plank has a direct influence on Haryana politics. So BJP is going to elections with Modiji as the captain. People in Haryana know BJP has a galaxy of leadership and they know who their leaders are.
