Sonia, Rahul to lead assembly elections campaign in Haryana
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi and other party stalwarts will campaign for the party candidates in the upcoming state assembly elections in Haryana, to be held mid-October.
This has come as a surprise to many as Rahul Gandhi had decided against campaigning for UP candidates. The committee in Haryana said that he would not be holding roadshows but will head aggressive campaigns in a few places in the state. Sonia Gandhi is expected to do at least one rally in the state, though the place is yet to be decided.
The campaign is expected is to focus heavily on the districts of Yamuna Nagar, Ambala, Hisar, Rewari, Mewat, Gurgaon, Rohtak, Bhiwani and Mahendergarh. Sources in the campaign committee said that the list of star campaigners is ready and the schedule will be announced once the poll dates are confirmed.
Besides veterans like Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Harish Rawat, Raj Babbar, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sachin Pilot and Jyotiraditya Scindia; the party is likely to rope in campaigners from all parties it has alliances with.
“RJD chief Lalu Prasad, JDU’s Nitish Kumar and others will also campaign to woo Purvanchali voters. Mobile vans equipped with songs based on achievements of the Congress government will soon be launched,” said Captain Ajay Singh, campaign committee chairman.
