Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh(BJP) confident of returning to power for third time in Chhattisgarh.
RAIPUR: "Yes you can certainly congratulate me in advance for making a hat trick". While these words would usually come from a cricketer, it was the Chhattisgarh chief minister, Dr Raman Singh, making this statement, even before the results for the crucial assembly elections are out in the state.
In an exclusive chat with TOI, a confident Raman Singh said he was sure that BJP will form the next government in the state and the party would continue it's winning streak, for a hat trick.
Claiming that his assessment was based on facts and not a mere political statements, the chief minister said, "We have analysed the polling trend, taken a feed back from a cross section of voters and evaluated the impact of our welfare schemes at the ground level before reaching this conclusion".
While he refused to predict the number of seats the party was likely to win, Raman Singh said, "It will be a comfortable victory". Dismissing the claims of the Congress that the record high voting percentage indicated a "change", the chief minister said on the contrary it has been a vote for development.
"I have personally spoken to voters across the state and the feed back is that our welfare schemes have helped the people immensely", he said claiming that even the increased participation by women was a sign of endorsement of the government's policies.
"Women come up to me and openly say that our schemes have benefited and helped them to run their homes", he said adding that in times of such steep price rise and inflation, households budgets would have gone for a toss but for the subsidies by the state government.
"Over 42 lakh families have been directly benefited by our Food Security Act. Over 56 lakh families are getting medical insurance through state sponsored schemes.
We are providing 35 kgs of food grains every month to 42 lakh poor families at a token price of Rs 1 and we have paid bonus to farmers", he said adding that people had not forgotten this.
Claiming that the series of election rallies by Narendra Modi had "electrified" the voters, especially the youth; Raman Singh said his Gujarat counterpart's campaigning had proved a "bonus" for the party. "He is carrying the people with him", he claimed.
Back from campaigning in Madhya Pradesh's tribal areas earlier today, Raman Singh claimed that even his counterpart there, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, was on a hat trick.
"We will win both Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh", he said adding, "I am accepting congratulations in advance".
