The united bloc of six Left parties – CPI, CPI (M), CPI (ML), Forward Bloc, RSP and SUCI (C) – on Friday announced seat sharing among them for 221 out of 243 seats in Bihar and ruled out any alliance with Samajwadi Party (SP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the state elections.
State secretary of CPI Satya Narain Singh said on Friday CPI would contest 91 seats, CPI (ML) 78, CPI (M) 38, SUCI (C) six, Forward Bloc five and RSP three. Addressing a joint press conference, state leaders of the six Left parties said they would take a final call on the rest 22 of the state 243 seats soon.
“We are eyeing victory in maximum number of constituencies so that Bihar gets a government that will work for the betterment of people. The other parties are more interested in politics for personal gains,” Singh said, adding that there would be a triangular fight in state elections this year as the NDA and Mahagathbandhan would face a stiff challenge from Left parties. “The Left alliance is the only secular choice for the people of Bihar.
The RJD and JD(U) are wearing secular masks only to befool the people,” Singh added.SUCI (C) state committee member Arun Kumar Singh said this is for the first time that Left parties are contesting elections on all 243 seats in Bihar.
Taking a jibe at Nitish Kumar-led Mahagatbandhan and BJP- led NDA for not having any proper agenda for the polls, the SUCI (C) functionary said, “We have decided to go to the people with 25-point agenda, but what about them? They all are talking in the air.” The Left leaders said they decided against forging an alliance with SP and NCP as the two parties do not have any base in Bihar.
CPI (ML) politburo member Dhirendra Jha, Forward Bloc chairman Ashok Prasad, RSP state secretary Mahesh Prasad Sinha and CPM state secretary Kunal were also present at the press conference.CPI had one MLA in the outgoing Bihar assembly. It had fought in alliance with JD(U) in the last general election in Bihar, but drew a blank.
