Bihar Assembly polls: Janata Parivar, Congress build coordination ahead of polls, Bihar Assembly elections 2015,Bihar Latest News
New Delhi: The grand alliance of the Janata Parivar and the Congress is forming committees across administrative levels to avoid any coordination mishaps in the forthcoming elections to the Bihar assembly.
If successful, the committees—to be set up at the state, district and block levels—could work toward ensuring smooth coordination among alliance members and minimize internal friction.
The two main constituents of the Parivar—the Janata Dal (United), or JDU, led by chief minister Nitish Kumar and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led by Lalu Prasad—were bitter political rivals until April, when they decided to bury the hatchet in order to put up a front against the common political foe, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“A district-level committee will ensure that coordination happens at the ground level. These committees would be overseen by an in-charge who would be chosen on the basis of the strongest presence of a particular party (in a constituency),” a Congress leader from the state, aware of developments, said.
According to the Congress party leader quoted above, there will be joint media briefings by the district-level committees that will also make use of social media for better coordination.
The strategy will be rolled out after the first joint rally of the alliance, scheduled to be held in state capital Patna on 30 August.
“There is a nine-member committee in place at the state level which has equal representation from all the three parties. Although not formally announced, this nine-member committee was responsible for the smooth distribution of seats. Now we have to take this understanding further in seat and candidate identification as well as charting a joint campaign,” said a senior JD(U) leader.
The same leader quoted above added that one of the key strategies for the alliance is inviting regional leaders of opposition parties to campaign for them or lend support at the ground level.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has already agreed to help Nitish Kumar in his election campaign; Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is on board as part of the Janata Parivar; and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to help the alliance with its campaign.
“There will be a meeting of all the stakeholders after the 30 August rally to work out the finer details about seat identification and campaign strategy. A date for it yet to be finalized,” a third leader from the alliance said
