Ram vilas Paswan cold to Manjhi, LJP poll campaign from Mar 27
PATNA: Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ram Vilas Paswan said on Saturday his party would start its campaign for the assembly election on March 27. He showed indifference to former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi's future.
Paswan said LJP would hold its state workers' conference at S K Memorial Hall here on the day of launching its online membership drive "The party workers from across the state will participate in it," he said.
Paswan also said the LJP would organize a Dalits' conference at Varanasi on April 6. Incidentally, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by Mayawati is the biggest political umbrella for the Dalits in Uttar Pradesh and has the record of winning seats in the western border districts of Bihar during its state assembly election.
The LJP chief's bid to mobilize Dalits aat Varanasi is to fulfil his ambition to spread out his wings in UP and checkmate Mayawati in the western Bihar districts during the assembly election this year, observers felt.
However, Paswan appeared to have no real fancy for former Bihar CM Manjhi who broke up with CM Nitish Kumar and now has also floated his separate front - Hindustani Avam Party.
It is felt the BJP which had announced its support to Manjhi for his trust vote on February 20 has now developed cold feet towards him. Manjhi resigned as CM without facing the trust vote.
Manjhi is now giving out confusing signals, maintaining he is still in the JD(U) while reports suggest he has also been trying to close up to RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
While speculations about his political sustainability are rife, Manjhi's latest distress feeler to his assumed constituents is that he would retire from active politics if the state-level rally of his party scheduled for April 20 failed or flopped.
Given the backdrop, Paswan said: "My reading of his situation is very clear from day one."
He further added, "We stood by him because he belongs to a Mahadalit family and Nitish mistreated him. Manjhi is free to take his independent decision and course."
