Gaya Municipal Corporation (GMC) unseated

GAYA: Following his conviction in a criminal case, Santosh Yadav, a corporator representing ward no. 27 of Gaya Municipal Corporation (GMC), has been unseated and the seat has been notified as vacant. By-election will now be held for this ward.

The notification to terminate the membership of Yadav was issued by HC Sirohi, state election commissioner. The by-election schedule has not been worked out. The membership termination notification has been issued in accordance with provisions of section 18 of Bihar Municipal Corporation Act 2007.

Yadav, it may be recalled, was earlier awarded 10 years RI on several criminal charges including extortion. A Gaya court, earlier found Yadav guilty under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and awarded him punishment for the offence.

Yadav, is the second corporator to have been unseated. A few days back, membership of Om Prakash, corporator of award no. 40, was terminated by the state election commission for allegedly contesting a reserved seat on the basis of a forged caste certificate. Prakash claimed to be a 'Dhanuk', while he actually belongs to Kurmi caste.

Ibrar Ahmad alias Bhola Mian, corporator representing ward no. 25, has been absconding for the last one year following the institution of a murder case against him. Bhola's name cropped up in a sensational murder case in which a real estate agent was gunned down near ANMCH, Gaya. Bhola, on account of warrant against him, has not been participating in the proceedings of the municipal body for more than a year now.
