Bihar polls will be vote on Modi: Sharad

Patna: JD (U) national president Sharad Yadav on Sunday said the country would watch the Bihar assembly elections due in October-November this year as it would be a referendum on the performance of NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi.

"India is in a state of restlessness in just nine months of Modi rule at the Centre. The Delhi assembly election result was its manifestation. Now, Bihar will be the first state to go to the polls after the NDA government's pro-rich and anti-poor Budget and its various laws brought from backdoor to help the corporate houses of the country. India will watch Bihar elections," Sharad said while addressing the JD (U) booth-level workers' political conclave at Gandhi Maidan here.

He warned Modi against getting the land acquisition bill passed in Parliament as it was like provoking a tiger. "Yeh sher ke munh mein haath dalne jaisa hai," he said referring to the farmers who, he claimed, would never spare him for robbing them of their source of livelihood.

Criticizing the Centre for having no road map for generating employment, Sharad accused Modi of befooling the unemployed youth for whom he had promised 2 crore jobs every year.

"Now they are talking about skill development and loans to farmers at low interest rate. Instead of bringing back black money from abroad, they talk about bringing a law to punish the defaulters. Has any big fish caught for corruption and loot of public money been punished in the 68 years of independent India? The whole system is corrupt. The BJP wants poor farmers to die in debt," he said while ridiculing the insurance scheme for poor at a premium of Re 1 per month as they would not benefit from it in their lifetime.

Sharad also doubted the NDA government's plan of interlinking rivers and cleaning of the Ganga. "Not a single paisa has been earmarked for the rivers' interlinking or irrigation schemes for the poor farmers," he alleged.
