BJP, JD(U) MLAs stage protest at Assembly portico
The acrimony between JD(U) and BJP took an ugly turn Thursday with some legislators of both the parties pushing, shoving and snatching posters and placards from one another at the portico of the Assembly, a little before the start of the day's proceedings at 11 am.
The incident occurred when legislators of JD(U) and BJP assembled in large numbers at the portico to stage protest over different issues. Some members of both the parties started pushing, shoving and snatching posters from the hands of rival party members.
While JD(U) members were protesting on the issue of controversial remarks of BJP Haryana leader O P Dhankar on brides from Bihar for Haryana boys, BJP members were agitating against police firing at Rohtas on Tuesday in which two persons were killed.
Usha Sinha, JD(U) MLA from Hilsa in Nalanda district, said that she had lost one of her earrings and received scratches when BJP members fought with her to snatch the poster she was carrying.
Sinha said she has brought the issue to the notice of Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhary. BJP legislator from Paliganj in Patna district Usha Vidyarthi complained that she was pushed by JD(U) women members during attempts to take away the poster from her.
The ugly scene ended when some elderly members of both sides interfered and disciplined the members. Inside the House, the question hour went on smoothly. But, during zero hour, BJP members trooped into the well demanding acceptance of an adjournment notice given by their two colleagues Arun Kumar Sinha and Kankiah Kumar for taking up the issue of police firing in Rohtas.
Leader of Opposition Nand Kishore Yadav pressed the Chair to take up the adjournment notice first before proceeding on other subjects. Parliamentary Affairs minister Shrawan Kumar said the government was prepared to present a statement on Rohtas firing and hence there was no point in BJP members entering into the well.
Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhary asked the agitating BJP members to return to seats, but they defied. RJD Legislature party leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui wanted to raise some issues during zero hour and later RJD members staged a walkout in protest. The Speaker adjourned the House till 2 PM after BJP members refused to return from the well and continued shouting anti-government slogans.
